My kinder class and philosophy of teaching

In our classroom, social emotional learning and cognates go hand in hand!
We talk about the differences in the Spanish and English language every day!

When distance learning began, I adopted the use of lessons created by dual-immersion teachers, but modified to fit my class of more than 80% native English speakers. My PLC and I found ways to continue dual-immersion teaching while being fully online. I added my voice to the lessons in order for students to know the name of the objects so that they could find rhymes. Then, I would make other changes to the same activities for my native Spanish speakers, which can be seen below:
I also adapted the Benchmark Adelante curriculum to support all students, but specifically those who did not have as much support from their adults at home, or those that could not read in Spanish on their own.
Masters Classes: Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Early Childhood Education
At Western Oregon University, where I am currently half way through the masters program, I have learned about the extremely important topic surrounding education, which is that of trauma-informed learning/teaching, as well as culturally appropriate teaching. I have also gained deep insight as to why and how curriculum instruction shapes our students into the goals and dreams we set for them. Ultimately, education is the foundation for our students so that they may have a life where they are capable of searching for their path, but also for teachers as well. To continue learning teachers become more aware of their students' needs, and their own as well. Through the continuation of my education, I have learned to be a better teacher for my students, and for myself. It is my lifelong commitment to serve all no matter their abilities, as we all represent a wide variety of intelligences.
